The Pacific Heights Townhouse project involved updating a 1906 Victorian building with a stucco exterior. The owners aimed to maintain the traditional character of the house while introducing modern elements for improved livability and personalization.
The key challenge was to create a light-filled, sustainable home with a garden accessible from the main living spaces. Feldman Architecture achieved this by placing the living areas on the top floor to capture the best natural light and creating a roof garden by removing a large portion of the rear space. The use of LITEFLAM XT 90 fire-rated glass skylights allowed for the infusion of natural light while maintaining safety.
The home was designed with large windows, new skylights, and open riser stairs to maximize light flow through the house.
The architects successfully created a harmonious balance between functionality and design, with visually connected spaces that are still functionally separate.
